The Metro Softball team had a 3-4 record for their 2023 season. The highlight of the season was the final game, an 18-16 walk-off win against Hancock. The game was tied at 16 in the bottom of the seventh when Kendyl Barth hit a double, which scored two runs and ended the game. Cecelia St. John also had an outstanding performance, driving in 6 runs throughout the game. Another highlight was their 25-15 win against Afton. Afton took the lead in the 1st inning and was up 6-2 by the top of the 2nd inning. The Metro Panthers flipped the game on its head by scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Cecelia St. John had another outstanding performance this game, driving in 5 runs on three hits.
As one could probably tell, Cecelia St. John was our top hitter for the season. She ended the season with a batting average (AVG) of .726 and an on-base percentage (OBP) of .850, with only one strikeout throughout the entire season. St. John also had an SLG of 2.091, and of her 8 hits throughout the season two of them were home runs. She had 14 RBIs throughout the season which was double our second highest of 7 RBIs by Olivia Finley. Our second-best hitter was Adaleta Kugic with an AVG of .500, and our third best was Kendyl Barth with an AVG of .364. To finish out the top 5 hitters for the season we had Olivia Finley in 4 th place with an AVG of .316, and Sylvia Beffa with an AVG of .308 in the 5th spot.
The star pitcher for this season was Adaleta Kugic. After last year’s starting pitcher, Kendyl Barth, refused to pitch for unknown reasons, Adaleta stepped up and took the position as starting pitcher. Adaleta ended the season with a win/loss ratio of 3-2 and gathered 20 strikeouts throughout the season. Our gold glove of the season was
1st baseman Sylvia Beffa. She ended the season with a fielding percentage of 1.000. Meaning she had 0 errors throughout the entire 2023 season. Another great season for Metro Softball and we’re looking forward to next year.
