The end of October brings the peak of fall- leaves are turning, school sports seasons are coming to an end, and Starbucks dropped their fall menu! If you’re ever looking for a cozy and easy place to sit down and get some work done, a cafe in fall is the perfect place to start. Saint Louis has many options-- of course, you could pick up a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks, or, you could spend your study hall at Kaldi’s in the Central West End, which also has some unique fall drinks available. They offer a baked maple pumpkin latte, which has the perfect amount of sweetness contrasted with hints of bitterness. Served warm, it’s perfect for the cool weather. Northwest Coffee is also in close proximity to Metro, and has a great indoor and outdoor seating area to sit and get some work done. If you live closer to the Tower Grove Area, Fiddlehead Fern serves amazing toasts and coffees in a lively shop on Russel and Thurman. You could easily stop by to pick up a drink and then take a walk through the park, where small festivals occur on the regular.
While you sip on your piping hot (or iced!) latte, you could roam around an artfair, pick some fall harvest, or enjoy the warmth of a nostalgic movie. The Shaw Art Fair occurred a bit ago, but was a great opportunity to ring-in fall, and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of Flora Pl, surrounded by unique (local) art. Another way to admire the sheer beauty of autumn foliage is to take a short drive to any one of Eckert’s Farms to harvest apples or pumpkins this fall.
The range of varieties of apples, which you can incorporate into fall pies, breads, preserves, or enjoy just as a snack, are truly the best of the season and are the perfect addition to any, and every, fall day. The perfect end to any day this season is a movie night with friends or family, complete with apple cider, pumpkin everything, and *cinnamon roll-ups (recipe at the bottom). If you’re feeling in the mood for a classic, New York- style fall film with all the warm vibes, look no further: (1) You’ve Got Mail, (2) When Harry Met Sally, (3) Practical Magic, all must watches! For more of a spooky, horror vibe we recommend watching: (1) Coraline, (2) Nightmare Before Christmas, (3) Friday the 13th, (4) Scream, (5) Hocus Pocus.
